A vacation workbook for children aged 6 to 9 and the adult beside them: short games, pages to fill in and ideas for going outside, on paper or with a stylus on a tablet.
Calm, curious vacation days, at the child’s own pace
- Games that speak for themselves: counting, adding, taking away, comparing, continuing a pattern, reading the clock, finding the way out of a maze, spotting the odd one out, completing a mirror figure on a grid, solving a picture sudoku.
- Very little text: numbers, shapes and pictures carry the games. An adult reads the instructions to younger children; by about 9, many pages can be done without help.
- Stars, not ages: each game has 1, 2 or 3 stars, which show whether it takes a little or a lot of time. No page states an age.
- Outdoors, with an adult: treasures to find (a leaf, a smooth pebble, something soft), the weather this week, a plant journal, a color and shape hunt. Nothing to taste, nothing to pull up.
- A journal of their own: introducing themselves, coloring a 30-day calendar, telling their day on 3 pages, writing a card to someone, keeping their favorite moments.
- Time together: 20 family challenges (a story made up together, a cushion fort, a game of charades) and a no-cook recipe.
- No pressure: no marks, no scores, no timers. A blank page is perfectly fine. The solutions are at the back, and the certificate celebrates a finished workbook.
What is inside, section by section
40 pages: the cover, a note for parents, then 38 pages of activities.
- This is my workbook (1 page): an introduction page and a drawing of where the child is staying.
- My calendar (3 pages): 30 days to color in, one line per day, and 30 ideas for a vacation day.
- Numbers (7 pages): counting, adding, taking away, hidden numbers, equal groups, bigger or smaller, number stories. Numbers up to 100.
- Patterns, shapes and clocks (4 pages): number and picture patterns, shapes and their sides, o’clock and half past on clocks with numbers (12, 3, 6, 9).
- Brain teasers (6 pages): 3 mazes, find the odd one out, finish the other half (lines drawn on a grid, as in a mirror), 2 picture sudokus.
- Connect the dots (2 pages): a sailboat from 1 to 25 and a rocket from 1 to 40.
- Outside and inside (5 pages): treasures to find, leaf rubbing and collage, the weather this week, a plant journal, a color and shape hunt.
- My journal (5 pages): 3 pages of “My day”, a card for someone, my favorite moments.
- With my family (3 pages): 20 challenges to do together and a no-cook recipe, fruit and yogurt cups.
- Solutions and certificate (2 pages): the solutions to every game, mirror figures and connect-the-dots included, then a certificate to fill in together.
Exactly what you get
- 3 PDF files of 40 pages each: A4 and US Letter, portrait, to print; and a tablet version with bookmarks for each section, to fill in with a stylus in a PDF annotation app.
- Works in black and white: color stays light, on the cover and the headings.
- Large-print instructions, short sentences, wide writing lines and boxes.
- Undated, with no months or seasons: reprint it for brothers and sisters or for the next vacation.
- No links, no QR codes, no account to create.
For summer vacation and every break, whatever the season
The workbook names no month and no season. It fits “Summer vacation”, whether it falls from June to August or from December to February where you live, “The end-of-year break” or “A week off”. The calendar has 30 days: a shorter break, you stop; a longer one, you reprint. On the weather page, the week starts on Sunday.
Who it is for
For parents, grandparents and other adults caring for children aged 6 to 9 who want a calm, short, screen-free activity (or a stylus on a tablet) that can be picked up and put down. For a child who enjoys counting, searching, drawing and telling stories. For families who speak another language at home: the workbook comes in 11 languages, with very little text.
Who it is not for
Not for anyone who wants to follow a national curriculum or prepare for a specific year: the workbook does not measure the child. Not for an activity with no adult at all: several pages need one (outdoors, the recipe, cutting out). Not for anyone looking for an app, online games or famous characters. Not for a group, a school or a summer camp: the license covers one household.
Questions
Our child cannot read yet. Will this work? Yes, with an adult who reads the instructions: most games use numbers and pictures.
Will it be too easy, or too hard? The stars, from 1 to 3, show whether a game is shorter or longer. Choose the pages together and skip the ones that do not appeal.
Does it follow the school curriculum? No. It is tied to no country: the math stays universal (counting to 100, adding and taking away, equal groups, o’clock and half past).
Do we have to do everything, in order? No. Every activity is optional; the child can skip a page, come back to it later or do it again.
Do we need a color printer? No: the workbook works in black and white.
Can we use it on a tablet? Yes: the tablet version has bookmarks for each section and boxes large enough for a stylus. Any PDF annotation app will do; we do not require a particular one.
Are there characters or photos? No famous characters, no photos, no people drawn: the heroes of the workbook are a seed, a sailboat and a rocket.
What about safety outdoors and in the kitchen? Always with an adult. Outdoors, nothing is tasted and nature stays where it is. The recipe needs no cooking, the adult does the cutting, and a box reminds you to check for allergies.
Does the workbook ask for personal data? No: no account, no links. The pages ask for no address, no school and no date of birth; a first name at most.
For several children? The license covers your household: print as many copies as your family needs, but not for a group or for resale.
Is it available in other languages? Yes: French, Spanish, German, Dutch, Brazilian Portuguese, Italian, Turkish, Russian, Arabic and Chinese. Each purchase includes one language.
