A 90-day journal for any language: your record, your words, your sentences, and a schedule that tells you what to review.

  • A record of what you do: one page per week, days 1 to 90. You note the time spent, what you did, the words and sentences you wrote down, and a feeling from 1 to 5. The feeling is not a mark.
  • Your words in one place: 10 word notebook pages, each with the word or phrase, its meaning in your language, an example sentence, the day you learned it and three review boxes. 12 lines per page, tall enough for dense scripts.
  • Know what to review today: for each of the 90 days, the review schedule prints the days whose words you test (D+1, D+7, D+30). There is no date to enter.
  • Any language: the word columns impose no language and no script. Learning two languages? Print the journal twice, for your own use.
  • An empty box is not a mistake: the 90-day grid is filled in with a pencil, rest days are built in, and the journal picks up again whenever you like.
  • Sentences, not only words: useful sentences, sentences heard or read, and pages of remarks where you note in your own words what you noticed. The journal gives no rules.
  • Three check-ins: one on days 30, 60 and 90, then a page for what comes next.
  • Paper or tablet: A4 or US Letter, readable in black and white; a tablet version with a clickable contents page, tabs and wide boxes for a stylus.

For the language you are learning, whatever it is

The journal teaches no language: it helps you keep a record of what you do with the course, book, person or tool of your choice. Write in the language you are learning, the way it is written: Latin, Arabic, Cyrillic, Chinese or any other script. No font, no transliteration and no language rule is imposed, and no language is presented as more useful than another. A cell can hold Arabic in a journal in English, or English in a journal in Arabic.

Exactly what you receive

  • 3 files: the journal as an A4 PDF, a US Letter PDF and a tablet PDF (portrait, with links). The US Letter PDF, a little shorter than A4, has a few fewer lines on some free-writing pages.
  • The journal: 46 pages, that is 43 content pages plus the cover, the instructions and the contents page. My starting point (3 pages); The method in two pages (2); My 90 days (1 page: three grids of 30 days); My 13 weeks (13 pages); My word notebook (10 pages, 120 lines); My sentences (4 pages); My review schedule (3 pages, 30 days each); My check-ins (4 pages: days 30, 60 and 90, then what comes next); My resources and exchanges (2 pages); Example of a filled page (1 page, with made-up words).
  • No date printed: you write the dates yourself, on the day that suits you.
  • No macro, no account, no subscription, no reminders: it is a PDF to fill in.

Who it is for

For anyone learning a language, alone or with a course, friends or someone who supports them, who wants to keep a record on paper or on a tablet. For work, study, family, travel or pleasure: no reason is assumed. For a language written differently from yours. One minute a day is enough to fill in a line.

Who it is not for

Not for anyone looking for a course, a programme or ready-made word lists: the journal teaches nothing. Not for anyone expecting an automatic reminder, an account or an app. Not for teachers looking for course material. Not for anyone expecting a mark or a ranking: the journal assesses nobody.

Frequently asked questions

I already have an app. Why this journal? If it suits you, keep it. This journal does something else: a record that is yours, on paper or with a stylus, your words with their example sentence in the script of the language, and a schedule that tells you which days to review. It goes alongside any course, book or tool, which it does not replace.

Which language is it for? Any language. The word columns impose neither a language nor a script.

My script is not Latin. The word notebook lines are tall and leave room for Arabic, Chinese, Cyrillic or other characters. In the Arabic and Chinese editions they are taller still (10 lines per page).

Is it a course? No. It gives no language rules, no word lists, no pronunciation and no audio. The remarks pages stay blank: you note what you notice.

Does it promise a result? No. Nothing is promised, neither a number of words, nor ease, nor success in a test: what you retain depends on what you do and what you live through.

I have never kept a notebook going. The journal does not count your missed days. An empty box is not a mistake, rest days are built in and you pick up whenever you like. One line a day is enough.

Do I have to fill it in for 90 days in a row? No. The journal covers 90 days, that is 13 weeks, but it is undated: rest days are built in, an empty box is not a mistake, and you can start it again whenever you like.

How does the review schedule work? The day you learn a word is D0. For each day, the schedule shows the days whose words you test: the day before, 7 days before, 30 days before. These markers are practical, not a law; if you miss a day, do the test the next day. Spreading out your reviews helps you remember better than cramming them together, and testing yourself from memory helps more than rereading.

What about a tablet? The tablet PDF has a clickable contents page, tabs and a link back to the contents on every page. Any PDF annotation app that follows internal links will do. On a phone the PDF can be read, but it is not designed for writing on.

Do I have to print everything? No: only the pages you need, on A4 or US Letter, in black and white if you like.

Does it exist in other languages? Yes: French, Spanish, German, Dutch, Brazilian Portuguese, Italian, Turkish, Russian, Arabic and Chinese. The interface follows your language; the language you are learning stays free. Each purchase includes one interface language.

Can I share it? The licence is personal: you print it as often as you need for your own use, but you may not resell or distribute it.

Important

This journal is a personal planning tool. It teaches no language, guarantees no result and replaces neither a course nor a teacher. Your progress depends on what you do and what you live through: the review markers (D+1, D+7, D+30) are practical, not a law.

An empty box is not a mistake.
